We Started Sync1 Because Credit Unions Deserved Better

In 2017, three credit union professionals built a lending platform from scratch — not by retrofitting bank software, but by asking CU teams what they actually needed.

How We Started

Every Lending Platform on the Market Was Built for Banks.

Every lending platform on the market was built for banks and repackaged for credit unions. The workflows didn't fit. The pricing penalized growth. And when you needed something changed, you opened a ticket and waited.

Steve Maloney, Dan Chaney, and Bruce Callen had spent years watching this play out — first at Teres Solutions, where they helped build the SAIL platform, and then across dozens of credit union implementations. They saw the same pattern: good CU teams, fighting bad tools. In 2017, they partnered with 1st Community FCU and Y-12 FCU to build Sync1 with a simple premise: build a LOS that credit unions could actually configure themselves, price it so growth was rewarded instead of taxed, and let the institutions that use it govern where it goes.
